Unmet Medical Need

Chronic wounds are those that have failed to proceed through an orderly and timely reparative process to produce anatomic and functional integrity of an injured site. Chronic wounds represent a silent epidemic that affects a large fraction of the population, in developed countries it is estimated that 1 to 2% of the population will experience a chronic wound in their lifetime.

NitricGen’s first indication is for diabetic foot ulcers that are a common and debilitating complication of diabetes. Estimates show that in the US, diabetic foot ulcers affect up to 10% of diabetics and over 5% ¬†of patients the wounds become chronic (those that do not respond to the standard of care). Chronic diabetic ulcers lead to long-term hospitalizations, increased risk of infections and amputation, and in severe cases, death.
